New Wares | Dovo Scissors Now Available

For someone starting embroidery for the first time or perhaps new to needlework in general, when it comes to buying a pair of scissors you can only imagine what they must think when presented with the overwhelming number of choices on offer!

Why are there so many different scissors to choose from and don’t they all just do the same thing?

It’s a fair question, right? And we all know the answer… Yes and No!

Think about pens. Each one is capable of putting ink on paper yet ask anyone who's found ‘their’ pen and they'll tell you it's never really about the ink. It's the weight, the grip, the way it feels right in the hand.

Scissors are a similar thing. Every pair can cut thread and fabric to some extent, but the weight, balance and finish are where some of the real differences begin.

Not to mention that using a premium pair of scissors is without doubt an elevated experience in the same way using a premium pen carries a certain cachet.

Which brings us to our newest addition to our Wares shelf, Dovo Scissors.

Founded in 1906 in Solingen, Germany, Dovo create premium quality snips made from hot-forged stainless steel. Here are two popular models now available to purchase:

Dovo 'Aya' Hardanger Scissors

This 3.5"/9cm pair was designed with Hardanger in mind, though it's equally brilliant for all cutwork techniques. Fine, sharp, tapered blades slip neatly between fabric threads for a close, precise cut. Comes in a matte gunmetal finish and leather sheath.

Dovo 'Anja' Embroidery Scissors

A wonderful all-rounder at 10cm (4"), with larger finger holes and a little more robustness than its 9cm (3.5") sibling, Anja is perfect for when you need a longer cutting blade. Brushed stainless finish, similar to pewter.
