What Are You Stitching?

24TH JULY 2026 - ASU #535

Kilmeny Jones

‘Around about late November, a counted canvaswork art deco Christmas tree came to my attention. I couldn't get the pattern, as it was published in a magazine that I didn't have access to (American Needlepoint Guild's ‘Needle Pointers’ for Nov 2024, specifically). However, if I couldn't find that pattern, there was nothing to prevent me from coming up with my own, so I started looking at art deco style Christmas tree images.’

‘Then, around early December, the bug of introducing the challenge of stitching it completely from my stash added a bit of a kick. Two weeks later, I had this result. It was fun to stitch, and I'm now trying to get it charted as a number of my canvaswork friends have hinted that I'd better do so!’

Kilmeny, what a gorgeous piece. Not only is the design wonderful, but the colour scheme is harmonious and the stitching is terrific. You set yourself a challenge and produced an amazing result; we hope you’re very pleased with your efforts.

Anita Curley

‘I’m continuing my stitching journey with lots of inspiration from your magazine.’

‘I love Roseworks designs and Hazel Blomkamp. I’m dressing my living room with cushions, two from your magazine, Nature’s Delight and Splendid Jacobean by Colleen Goy, and two from other designers.’

Cushions make the perfect display piece for embroidery, Anita, and these are no exception. While each design and colour scheme is different, they complement each other beautifully and are impeccably stitched. We have no doubt your lounge room will become the envy of stitchers around the world!

Ruth Thean

‘I’ve been stitching this duck, a design by the extremely talented Hazel Blomkamp. It is a present for my youngest daughter’s 40th birthday.

While it will be a surprise for her, she knows I’ve been stitching something that I’ve been keeping a secret from her.’

‘The duck was certainly a challenge as there were many stitches that I did not know, and it took many months of daily stitching to get it finished. Now it’s off to the framers.’

What a beautiful piece, Ruth, and such a wonderful gift for your daughter. Your stitching is skilful and leaves nothing to be desired; your consistent efforts certainly paid off. We hope your daughter loves her gift.
